Antonello Ciotti Appointed Vice President of COREPLA

On 14 May, 2007 during a meeting of the Board of Directors of COREPLA, the Italian consortium for plastic packaging waste collection, recovery and recycling, the Consortium's directorship was reappointed by unanimous vote. Antonello Ciotti, Global Commercial Director for Equipolymers, was appointed Vice President of COREPLA for the following three years. Giorgio Quagliuolo, President of Sicon srl, the Italian container company with headquarters in Pace del Mela (Messina, Sicily) is COREPLA's new President.

Antonello has been a member of Corepla's Board of Directors since its foundation, also holding the position of Chairman of the PET group for the PlasticsEurope Brussels association. Over the years, he has taken an active role in Petcore and was its President from 2002 to 2004.

"I am honored to have been appointed Vice President of Corepla", declared Antonello Ciotti, adding: "It is a sign of recognition that confirms the important role our company is also playing at national level through the associations in this sector."

The three-year period that has just come to a close will be very important in that the Consortium and its activities have reached a certain degree of maturity and efforts must be made towards transforming the entire organization into a model of excellence at national level and into a benchmark standard throughout Europe.

One of the main activities that the structure will be engaged in will be its procedure towards obtaining EMAS certification and the presentation in September of the second report on sustainability whose title already emphasizes the proactive role played by the Consortium and its 2,300 member companies.

COREPLA, Italy's National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling and Recuperation of Plastic Packaging Waste products, was formed by Law Decree 22/97 (also known as the Ronchi Decree) to organize the collection of discarded plastic packaging for recovery and recycling.

COREPLA today has 2,150 member companies belonging to the following categories:

  • plastics manufacturers
  • companies specialized in the transformation of plastic packaging
  • industries that use or produce such packaging
  • companies specialized in the recycling of plastics
